# Promotion

With promotions, plan so that a light click naturally leads to conversion. From encouraging repeat visits to creating natural virality, you can drive results throughout the funnel.

### What is a promotion

Promotions in Apps in Toss are events that award Toss Points based on specific user actions. For example, you can offer benefits based on actions such as signing up or completing the first use.

Promotions are operated using the budget topped up in the Business Wallet. You can also set directly in the console whether to display them in the Benefits tab.

<details>

<summary>Allowed promotion types</summary>

* Signup/access rewards (e.g., 2,000 points for new signups)
* Transaction/purchase incentive type (the conditions and guidance must be clear. e.g., 500 points for payments of 5,000 won or more)
  * However, Toss Points that have already been awarded cannot be reclaimed. Please review the promotion conditions and payout criteria thoroughly and operate it carefully.
* Event participation type (surveys, quizzes, simple missions. However, it cannot require too much time or labor.)
* Friend invitation type (both the inviter and the invitee are rewarded. Anti-abuse logic required)
* Probability-based/random rewards for non-game apps
  * Promotion periods can only be operated for up to one week.
  * It can only be used for promotional purposes to attract new users.
  * Even if it is registered as a non-game app, if it is classified as a game, you cannot run a probability-based promotion.

**Please note**

The promotion feature can be used without a separate server.

Non-game mini apps can also use a Server-to-Server method to award promotion points through a server. If integrity is important, such as preventing request tampering, please use the server-based payout method.

The promotion feature can be used without a separate server.

To award promotions through a server, you need to implement Toss Login. [Toss Login Guide](/guide/en/authentication/intro.md)Please refer to it.
{% endhint %}

When Toss Points are awarded through a promotion, a toast notification appears at the top of the user screen.

* **(Mini app name) awarded (amount) won** It appears briefly in the form of
* and can also be checked in the Toss app's notification menu (the bell button on the home screen).
  * However, depending on the user's notification settings, it may not appear in the notification menu.
* You can also check the accrual history in the Toss Points menu on the Benefits tab.
  * In the Toss app, you can check the accrual history by tapping Benefits → Toss Points → point amount → mini app name.

### Benefits of promotions

* By preloading the Business Wallet and setting a budget and end date in advance, you can run promotions without worrying about overspending.
* If displayed on the Toss Benefits tab, more users can come in with higher traffic.
* You can easily encourage user actions such as signing up or starting the first play.
* You can create a reason for users to return with daily and weekly missions, helping increase retention.
* Point payouts and result lookups can be handled via API.
* Test code `TEST_{promotionCode}`Use it to verify without deducting actual points.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Please note**

* The 'Try a New Service' tab, which displays multiple promotions from Apps in Toss together, may be shown only to some users depending on the internal exposure logic.
* Promotions cannot be run with gambling content, content that encourages installing our own app, or content that may violate laws.
* Please be sure to apply one-person-one-time limits, daily limits, cooldowns, and duplicate payout prevention logic.
* If payout is delayed, please provide guidance for PENDING status and a path to check the result.

### Register a promotion in the console

To start a promotion, please prepare the following items first. If you have already finished preparing, you can go straight to promotion registration.

* Register business information and review settlement information (business review takes 1-2 business days, settlement review takes 2-3 days)
* The representative administrator's agreement to the promotion feature terms and the Business Wallet terms
* Top up the Business Wallet with promotion budget (minimum 50,000 won, maximum 300 million won)

#### 1. Register business information

Promotions can only be used in business (individual or corporate) accounts. If you are not registered as a business, the console will show the screen 'Please register your business information first.' Please tap 'Register' to enter your business information.

* Business information review can take **about 1-2 business days** .
* For detailed procedures, [Business Registration Guide](https://developers-apps-in-toss.toss.im/guide/operation/register-business)please check.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FvcxacgICYPVW7ZxdFAXr%2FColumns%2097.png?alt=media&amp;token=e556015c-9bee-49fe-b2fe-f16ca6ce20f8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### 2. Register settlement information

Once business registration is complete, the screen will change to 'Next, please register settlement information.' Tap the 'Register' button, register settlement information in the partner information menu, and request review.

* Settlement information review **takes an average of 2-3 business days** .
* You cannot request review before registering settlement information. Please check the business registration status first.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2F6GWFPzUPZLMHTAv4ymee%2FColumns%2057.png?alt=media&amp;token=5a6aad71-c661-4c5d-8eb8-3b28189f4dbf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Notes when registering settlement information**

* The account holder name should match the bankbook copy **exactly** .
* For business type and industry, search by entering **text**instead of a numeric code. Example: search 'software' for 'software development'.
  {% endhint %}

#### 3. Top up the Business Wallet

After the settlement information review is complete, please agree to the promotion terms.

After that, **the widget at the top right of the Promotion menu**or the 'Business Wallet' menu in the workspace can be used to top up the budget.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FOrs7PlJTkTpvoBrvcCU6%2FColumns%2011.png?alt=media&amp;token=cf74886f-0117-4230-b1bd-1d8617c6b8be" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* Amount available for top-up: **Minimum 50,000 won \~ maximum 300,000,000 won**
* Available payment methods now: credit card (authenticated payment, unauthenticated payment)
  * Authenticated payment: no card-company-specific payment limits
  * Unauthenticated payment: Hana Card limited to 1,000,000 won per day, no limits for other card companies (unauthenticated payment is a method where you enter the card number directly.)

Once the top-up is complete, the status changes to 'Top up,' and the topped-up amount is reflected.

You can also set up auto top-up together. (e.g., top up 500,000 won when 100,000 won remains)

**Settlement and operation principles**

* Promotion budgets are set after topping up from the Business Wallet. When the budget is fully used, the promotion ends.
* If you stop the promotion, the remaining budget is returned to the Business Wallet. (if there is a balance)
* Duplicate participation and anti-abuse logic must be applied.
* If a claim arises, the partner company must handle it after checking the participation records.

#### 4. Register a promotion

**Browse a mini app and get points**

This is a promotion where users can receive points just by browsing a mini app for 10 seconds. It can be operated immediately through console settings without separate development, and both game and non-game mini apps can participate.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FBgkwvJeUO6L9LkTHoKnD%2F1%EA%B0%9C.png?alt=media&amp;token=881cb599-8270-4b57-8bb9-6e4606c25b17" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

From September 21, a fixed entry point called 'Choose a Mini App That Matches My Taste' will appear for this promotion in the Benefits tab's 'Various Benefit Missions.' When users click the entry point, they are moved to the full tab, shown two mini apps to choose from, and can receive points by browsing a mini app for 10 seconds.\nHowever, only released mini apps can use this promotion.

* Path: Apps in Toss console → Representative admin login → Select workspace → Select mini app → Left menu Promotion → 'Browse a mini app and get points' button

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FL95L1B7P1A3WLbfFF3Wg%2F%EC%9D%B4%EB%AF%B8%EC%A7%80%20(2).png?alt=media&amp;token=f9c5cfdb-9379-42ce-a5d9-95023d44e867" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

1. **Points awarded** — 10 won are awarded if the user browses the mini app for 10 seconds. Browsing time (10 seconds) is fixed.
2. **Number of participations** — You can set it so that one person can participate up to N times (e.g., 2 times). The waiting time before re-participation is fixed at 1 hour.
3. **Campaign period** — You can set the promotion period yourself.
4. **Budget** — Payouts are made only within the partner company's budget limit, and if the limit is exceeded, payouts stop and exposure also stops.

After entering the promotion details, please click 'Apply.' After applying, approval takes about 2 business days (D+2).

{% hint style="info" %}
Please be sure to check

* If the budget is insufficient, exposure may suddenly stop midway through the campaign. We recommend setting a generous budget considering the target operating period and expected number of participants.
* If a user meets the payout conditions but is not paid, Toss may pay first and settle later.
  {% endhint %}

**Complete missions and get points**

**When displayed on the Benefits tab**

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2F6ogaQudSX86tILTYKMlA%2F%E1%84%92%E1%85%A8%E1%84%90%E1%85%A2%E1%86%A8%E1%84%90%E1%85%A2%E1%86%B8%2024.png?alt=media&amp;token=1ec64e87-7f6e-4ba1-bc61-d0f4de4c2622" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

    * We do not pay more than this amount to the same user.
    * It helps prevent abuse and manage the budget stably.
    * Please set it especially if you are worried about abuse. We recommend applying it even when the client requests the point payout.

#### What are proprietary points? <a href="#promotion-1" id="promotion-1"></a>

Promotions that issue proprietary points are subject to separate management policies upon registration.

Proprietary points refer to points used in promotions where points or assets (honey, hearts, diamonds, coins, etc.) issued by the mini app itself are accumulated for users and then converted into Toss Points.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Please be sure to check**

Proprietary points can be considered to have monetary value that can be used to purchase goods or services from a third party and pay consideration at the moment they are converted into Toss Points.

Apps in Toss aims to comply with the Electronic Financial Transactions Act and implement the following measures to ensure the safety and reliability of proprietary-point promotions.
{% endhint %}

**How to register proprietary points**

When creating a promotion, you can register whether it uses proprietary points.

* First, the system automatically identifies whether it uses proprietary points based on the promotion details.
* If the system does not identify it, you can also set whether it uses proprietary points manually.
* If it is identified as a proprietary-point promotion, we will notify you by email, and you can also check it in the detailed information for each promotion.

**Compliance requirements**

To operate a proprietary-point promotion, you must comply with the following.

**Monthly budget limit**

* The monthly total of all promotion budgets, including proprietary-point promotions, cannot exceed 100 million won.

**Monthly reporting obligation**

* At the end of each month, you must enter the total amount issued, unit, and Toss Points conversion ratio for proprietary points in the console.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FW7bcIm04kWz3q1FaYKYg%2F%F0%9F%9F%A3%20Desktop_Modal%20(New%20Color)%2014%20(1).png?alt=media&amp;token=b78bf6b7-aaa0-4a2f-a99f-d0580c542ca5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Restriction on use of promotion codes**

* After promotion approval, the issued promotion code must be operated only according to the content written in the application form. Using that code for another promotion is strictly prohibited.

**What happens if you do not comply with the management obligations?**

Apps in Toss detects proprietary points that are operated without prior approval.

* Operating unapproved proprietary points
* Failing to comply with and deferring the obligation to enter the issuance amount
* Using the promotion code for a promotion different from the approved content

If any of the above are confirmed, the promotion may end without notice.

After entering the promotion details, please click \[Request Review]. Review takes **2-3 business days** .

### Start and operate the promotion

Press the 'Start' button to begin the promotion.

* The budget column is `actual spend amount / total budget` displayed in this format, so you can check how much budget has been used.
* Editing a promotion is mainly used when increasing the budget.
* When the promotion ends, the remaining budget is refunded to the Business Wallet.
* If the budget is exhausted, it will no longer be displayed on the Benefits tab. Please manage the budget regularly.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FwoJFIQyYB8mMGVi3iH8e%2FColumns%2057%20(2).png?alt=media&amp;token=9dab8b56-60f0-4c40-8e35-a89bf13ea01a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you click the campaign name, you can check promotion details and edit, end, or pause it.

* **Edit:** This is mainly used when increasing the budget. To increase the budget, please go through Campaign Details → Edit Promotion button → enter the amount to increase → Save. If you want to change settings other than the budget, there may be internal policy restrictions, so please check the review guidelines first.
* **End:** When the promotion ends, the remaining budget is automatically refunded to the Business Wallet. Refund amounts are often reflected immediately after ending, but may be delayed slightly due to system processing. Please check the budget frequently so the promotion does not end automatically because the budget is exhausted.

### Check performance

Once the promotion starts, you can check its performance on the dashboard. The dashboard shows at a glance how effective the promotion was and helps improve your next campaign strategy.

**Promotions not displayed on the Benefits tab do not appear in the performance dashboard.**

#### **Period settings and query conditions**

Performance data can be queried by various criteria. It's good to review it while changing conditions to suit your analysis purpose.

* **Daily, weekly, and monthly** You can query data by unit.
* **By operating system (OS)**&#x59;ou can check performance separately.
* You can query by distinguishing between all promotions currently operating in the mini app and individual promotions.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FVyJ02dmY33kp5Mt1Muan%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=27efca80-8e7e-4c73-9161-b4c719449325" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

On the promotion performance dashboard, you can check the flow of users participating in the promotion step by step. By looking at this flow, **the final conversion rate**can be identified, and you can also see at which stage users are dropping off the most.

1. **Entering the Benefits tab:** This is the number of users who saw this promotion displayed in the Benefits tab of the Toss app.
2. **Promotion click:** This is the number of users who actually clicked the promotion in the Benefits tab and entered the detail screen. Comparing clicks to Benefits tab entries helps you see how much the promotion title or thumbnail attracted users' attention.
3. **Points earned:** This is the number of users who met the promotion conditions and actually received Toss Points. If the conditions are difficult or the process is complex, many users may drop off at this stage.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2FuLCfMhCjfzst9zqcoGkF%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e5e2c91a-52fa-4ca9-bef7-3a98d8ca509c" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can check performance by dividing users brought in through the promotion by type.

* **New users:** Users who entered the mini app for the first time through the promotion.
* **Existing users:** Users who have used the mini app before.

<figure><img src="https://941686070-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8pQgXiR5QAzduV54W8Om%2Fuploads%2F7wtAvtLTG3uNSqGVmi0n%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=45dc4662-5ec6-410c-a184-c87fdca5a9c7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also check how much the promotion actually contributed to sales. However, contributed sales can only be queried by workspace (business number) and not by mini app.

* **Total contributed sales:** The total sales generated by users brought in through the promotion.
* **Average sales per person based on purchasers:** Among users brought in through the promotion, **only users who actually made a payment**are used to calculate the average sales.
* **Average sales per person based on all users:** regardless of whether they made a payment, **all users brought in through the promotion**are used to calculate the average sales.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://developers-apps-in-toss.toss.im/guide/en/marketing/promotion.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
