# Segment

Segments are a feature in the Appintos console for creating and managing user groups that meet specific conditions. Use them when you want to send messages only to specific users, such as for marketing or notifications.

***

### What are the benefits of using segments?

* You can target precisely. You can send messages only to users who meet the conditions you want.
* You can do data-driven marketing. You can design campaigns based on users' behavior and characteristics.
* You can improve the user experience. By providing personalized messages, you can increase engagement and satisfaction.

**Available condition categories**

You can combine conditions from four categories: transaction information, user information, user activity, and user profile.

* **Transaction information** — Information related to the user's actual transactions, such as the brand in the transaction history, ad category, and whether Toss Pay was used.
* **User information** — Basic user attributes such as age, gender, credit score, app version, and carrier.
* **User activity** — Based on the activity history within the app. Not mini app login **access criteria**can only be configured with.
* **User profile** — Information derived from a comprehensive analysis of the user, such as financial tendencies, lifecycle stage, and inferred interests.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Please note**

* Multiple conditions **AND conditions or OR conditions**can be combined and used.
* With target sampling, you can adjust the number of users included in a segment.
* Even if you delete a segment you've created, you can't create another segment with the same name.
  {% endhint %}

### Set up in the console

**1. Create a segment**

Go to the Segments menu and **' + Create'** button.

* How to access: Appintos Console → Select workspace → Select mini app → In the left menu, select 'Segments'

**2. Set categories and conditions**

Select the category and subconditions you want, and **'Add'** when you press it, on the right **'Selected segments'** it will be added to the screen.

* If there is only one condition, **'Save'** you can press it to save.
* To use multiple conditions together, add all the segments you want, then **'AND'** or **'OR'** set the condition.
* Some segments that require prediction need an accuracy setting.
  * If you increase the accuracy, the segment size (population) may decrease.
  * If the population size is important, you can use a lower accuracy setting. However, targeting accuracy may decrease.
  * In general, set it to 50% or higher.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Example — If you want to send a message to 'people who seem to live in Seoul and own their home'?**

1. User information → Region → Select Seoul, then 'Add'
2. Press 'Home' to return to the initial category list
3. User profile → Home ownership\_all → Set accuracy, then 'Add'
4. In the right-side 'Selected segments' **'AND'** Select
   * If you want to send it to people who live in Seoul or seem to own their home **'OR'** Select condition
     {% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/8eb2edd8fe68148bf31055e51857076bf78de5f7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you select an AND or OR condition, the segments are merged into one, and the count changes to the number of people who meet that condition.

* **Undo** — They are split back into separate segments.
* **Save** — Saved as a merged segment with combined conditions.

* **Segment name** — The name of the added segment is entered automatically. You can freely change it to the name you want. However, after deleting it, you cannot use the same name again.
* **Segment description** — Please write the reason for creating this segment or any management notes.
* **Favorite** — When set, it can be used right away in Push, Notifications, and Smart Send.
* **Save with fixed population** — You can fix the population size at the time of saving and use it. In this case, the population will not be updated, so choose according to your purpose.

After saving is complete, you can immediately view and use it in the Segments menu, Push, Notifications, and Smart Send.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://developers-apps-in-toss.toss.im/guide/en/marketing/intro.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
